Sports Injuries
Sports injuries can be many & varied.
Here are some of the most common injuries that we deal treat in our clinic.
Ankle Sprain
Ankle sprains can occur when you land on your ankle in a strange way either with running, changing direction, landing or jumping. These are common in Volleyball & Basketball.
Calf Strain
The calf muscle can become strained when too much load or force is used, or the muscle isn't correctly built up to the load it is going to take (e.g. common in distance runners)
Shoulder Bursitis
The bursa is a fluid pouch in the shoulder. It can get inflamed from repetitive overuse actions. These are common in throwing sports such as Baseball, Softball and overarm sports such as swimming.
Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
The Rotator cuff are the muscles in your shoulder. The tendons or muscles can become inflamed with repetitive movements. Common in any sport using the upper body and shoulders.
Knee Meniscus Injury
The knee meniscus or cartilage can become torn or damaged from one incident or a build up over time. This is usually found in sports that twist or change direction on one leg such as Cricket (Bowling), Soccer and AFL.
Runner's Knee
Runner's Knee is where the tendon on the front of your knee gets overworked. It can happen in sports with a lot of jumping and running such as Basketball, Running or Athletics.
Achilles Tendinopathy
The Achilles tendon is a very important part of your calf and is involved in jumping. It can become injured when the load is too much or people perform too much sport over a short time.
Shin Pain
Shin pain can be felt on the inside of the lower leg. We call this Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS).
This is particularly present in new runner's as they begin a program.
Tennis/Golfer's Elbow
Repetitive arm and forearm movements can cause inflammation on either sides of the elbow. This can be in sports with a lot of gripping and twisting with the arms. This is where it got it's name from - as it is common in racquet sports.

Treatment Style
This may include:
- Dry needling (trigger point release)
- Cupping therapy
- Instrument assisted soft tissue release (Scraping or Graston technique)
- Muscle release (massage)
- Trigger point therapy
- Mobilization (movement) of joints and muscles
- Manipulation of joints
- Hypervolt vibration massage
